Happy New Year!! Yeah, seven days ago, I know… Well, The RFC’s first few months have been interesting to say the least! Promising as well! We’ve seen lots of public interest in our work. We participated in an artisan fair in September and will be gearing up for another this coming fall! I’ll keep you posted with more info on that at a later date. We also now have many of our items for sale in a charming consignment shop at Lincoln Gardens in Lincoln, RI. Through LG, we were also featured in the local newspaper! See, an interesting first few months!! On top of all this excitement we have been commissioned for a few custom pieces of furniture and have even parted with some of our artwork varying from driftwood, jewelry, mirrors, lighting and decor items! Yes, we even made our first international shipment: a REFINED Vintage Lantern Lamp (Jonny’s fantastic design above) was shipped out to Spain!! We are excited to see our new business growing and gaining interest! Thank you so much for sharing with your friends and family about us!!
So, I personally spent much of the spring and summer of 2012 on this computer, in this little office of mine, building what I think is a very lovely website! Well, it’s extremely time consuming and never mind expensive to keep up with for a little homegrown business. Over the past two months or so we’ve been testing the waters over there in our own little Etsy shop, and to our delight it has been more successful than we had expected! (Shame on us, we know) Sooo, that being said, we have decided to simplify life and business around here a bit for 2013 and make this blog the new home of The Refinery Furniture Company with shopping conveniences at our etsy shop. Honestly, wordpress and etsy just make it easy for us at this point. I definitely won’t say this change is permanent though!! I’m a dreamer, remember??!! 😉 Anything can happen… and that’s a great thing!
Honestly, this feels right. Manageable. Comfortable, but better yet unconfined!! Over the next few days, I’ll be transferring all of our inventory to this blog and etsy shop before switching the link here so don’t go and loose your www.therefineryfurniturecompany.com bookmark! Pretty soon you’ll click it and find a lovely new RFC blog-site (yeah I made that one up) with all the REFINED beauty we can share!!
As always, if you’re gonna dream, dream big!!
So, yesterday I completed a project. Yes, that is a big deal for me! clap, clap, clap, clap Are you ever looking for that one piece of furniture…you have a corner or a sad little space that just needs a wow factor?? You just need that one unique item that will take your room from looking like everyone else’s department store decorated space to a place that makes you happy and brings a smile when you walk in… yeah, me too.
So here it is, my Peacock Vintage Painted End Table….
This end table was never ever a table. We recieved an old solid mahogany and beat-up waaay oversized desk from a local New England family. Seriously, this thing was huge and wicked heavy!! We didn’t even try to get it into our studio. I would’ve had to sit on top of it with my computer to type out these blogs because there wouldn’t be any floor space in here with that thing!! So it sat under a tarp on our trailer for about a week…or two waiting for inspiration. Then Jonny, aka Master Craftsman, 🙂 started the REFINING process. He took the desk apart (it even had a gaping hole drilled into the top for computer wires) and rebuilt it into these beautiful matching end tables. They have three dove-tailed drawers and a slide-out writing table. These are sized perfectly to fit anywhere, even high enough for night stands. I love them. You know what I love the most?? I love that even thought they have begun the refining process they are still proudly wearing their gouges and scars from a long family life. We don’t fill those little beauties in and hide their stories. So then this one sat in my studio for about a week…or two waiting for inspiration.
I had been forming more website structure and options to offer our custom pieces. One of the options we offer is a Vintage Paint Finish. It’s a finish that is multi-layered and distressed giving a piece an “I’ve seen it all and still have my colors to prove it” look. So the option you see here, I am happy to announce on the end table in it’s complete and refined state is Peacock Vintage Paint Finish. I don’t know about you, but I’m IN LOVE with this color scheme! Let me know what you think. I have the other end table too that’s patiently awaiting it’s refining and I’ve got a great finish in mind!! Can’t wait to share that one too! Well, unless of course someone beats me to it and wants it to match this one in the Peacock to have a matching set… only time will tell… I’ll get the eStore up and running first, though and get to finishing that wing back chair. (click on my post “Tattered & Torn” if you have no idea what chair I’m talking about) It’s coming along well, a very intricate piece. As promised, I’ll keep you posted!!
Well, so long for now and remember: If you’re gonna dream, dream BIG!!!
